CAVENS and the RSPB have joined forces for the fifth year to offer a birdwatching weekend with a difference in mid November. The two-day break combines our inimitable comfort and hospitality with daily excursions to nature reserves and birdwatching hot spots in Dumfries and Galloway under the leadership and guidance of local expert, Dave Fairlamb of the Mersehead RSPB Reserve.
The wide range of habitats in this stunning part of Dumfries and Galloway provide fantastic birdwatching with the possibility of seeing over 80 species, including swans, geese, diving and dabbling ducks, waders, birds of prey and woodland birds. And, after a thrilling day in the great outdoors what could be more natural than enjoying good company, fine dining and life’s little luxuries back home at CAVENS?
PROGRAMME
Friday 14 November 2008
Arrival at CAVENS from 2pm onwards.
Afternoon: Join Dave Fairlamb for a stroll around the hotel grounds from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
Evening: Meet at 7 pm for pre-dinner drinks reception, followed by three course dinner and illustrated talk.
Saturday 15 November 2008
Morning: Visit to Mersehead RSPB Reserve.
Afternoon: Visits to Carlingwark Loch and Ken-Dee Marshes RSPB Reserve.
Evening: Meet at 7 pm for pre-dinner drinks reception, followed by dinner and a quiz.
Sunday 16 November 2008
Morning: Visits to Southerness, Carsethorn and Drumburn Viewpoint.
Afternoon: Visits to Shambellie Woods, Kirkconnell Merse RSPB Reserve & River Nith.
Guests depart from CAVENS.
The tariff for the CAVENS Birdwatching Weekend is £500 for two people sharing a country bedroom or £600 for two people sharing
