The beaches, mud flats and rugged coastline of the Solway Firth stretch for over 200 miles but fly as 'a crow' and it's is half this number of miles. It is home for all or part of the year to many of Britain's rarest birds
Waders such as golden and ringed plover, oystercatcher, curlew, and dunlin may be seen here throughout the year. These are often joined by shelduck, and in winter, scaup of whihc only a handful breed in the UK every year, making them our rarest breeding duck.
