For the novice or experienced rider, Barrend Stables offers hacking and tuition for all levels. The stables are just three miles from Cavens and day tracks or hour rides can be arranged through the hotel.
FISHING
If you are an enthusiastic angler you will find the four acre trout lake superb for fly fishing and it is literally on your doorstep - only a 10 minute walk from the front door at Cavens. A one hour lesson followed by a half-day ticket is inclusive of all equipment and starts from just £45.00. There are also many great rivers just a short car journey away for those wanting to explore the area a little.
SHOOTING
Whether you are an experienced team of guns, requiring a driven day of 200 birds, or a complete novice wishing to have an introduction to the sport with clay pigeons, let us arrange your activity break from start to finish. There is an abundance of shooting to be had locally, from a fully organised day of driven pheasant for six guns, to an informal walked-up rough day with the keeper or perhaps just a day at our local shooting school for instruction or practice with clay-pigeons. A one hour lesson including all equipment costs £60.

Mersehead Nature Reserve

Caerlaverock Centre

Galloway Kite Trail
The Galloway Kite Trail is an exciting bird watching opportunity to view spectacular red kites around Loch Ken.
